VIOLIN AND VIOLA PLAYERS NEED A GOOD SHOULDER REST!
Middle School orchestra students are rapidly progressing in their skill development. We have recently
started to reinforce the concepts of shifting (moving the left hand to a new place on the fingerboard) and vibrato (moving
the hand in such a way as to “warm up” the sound). For violin and viola players, these skills
require the use of sturdy shoulder rests. The sponge/rubber band combination will no longer work as we
continue to progress.I recommend the Kun padded shoulder rest, but any of the ones you find at the links
below are acceptable. Please let me know if you have any questions and as always, thank you for supporting
your child’s music education. Shar Music (it is not necessary
to buy anything in the $40-$50 range) Southwest Strings (search for “shoulder
rest”) Quinlan and Fabish (will deliver directly
to school)
